Growing Beyond the Ledger: My First Two Weeks at PSI

Growing Beyond the Ledger: My First Two Weeks at PSI

I found PanScience Innovations while scrolling through LinkedIn. I was back in my hometown at the time, applying for jobs online, when a call came from PSI's HR team to schedule an interview. I asked to move it to the following week. Looking back, that short delay worked in my favour. I used the time to dig into everything I could find about PSI, and the more I read, the more curious I became.

What I found interesting is PSI builds and backs ventures, much like the way Y Combinator supports startups. It works with AI and new technology, and it has a fast-paced, experimental culture. I also realised that finance is the backbone of any venture. If I joined, my work would sit right at the centre of that journey.

The first two weeks were a little chaotic, and I'll admit it. There were many moving parts, and I was handling far more responsibilities than I ever had before. I coordinated with several teams, took accountability for things I had never managed so directly, and slowly worked my way through them.

Somewhere in the second week, it clicked. Things began falling into place and started running smoothly, and what made it possible was the people here.

My earlier workplaces had clearly defined verticals and a strict hierarchy. PSI has a hierarchy too, but it doesn't feel traditional. If you want to speak to a founder or a director, you don't hesitate. You can walk up and have a direct, honest conversation, and that is something I hadn't experienced elsewhere.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗿

The energy on the floor is something you notice quickly. PSI is an experimental place, and when someone builds something new, a project or a prototype, they take it to the leadership team and ask for feedback. Interns and full-timers alike bring that energy, and it is great to watch. Working at a tech-driven company has been a bonus too. I'm picking up on how different AI tools work, what they do, and why we invest in them, and those small things add up.

𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗹

Two weeks may be too short to call a journey, but the experience so far can be summed up in a single word: learning. Every day brings something new, whether it's a process I'm owning for the first time, an AI tool I'm discovering, or a lesson from the people around me. As a senior accountant, I have real authority, and it comes with real responsibility and accountability, and I'm excited to keep learning and growing with PSI.

If you're thinking about joining PSI, expect a little chaos at first. The support around you and the freedom to own your work will more than make up for it.
