Behind the Build: Learning Beyond the Plan

Behind the Build: Learning Beyond the Plan

Before joining PSI, what attracted me most wasn't a specific role, it was the opportunity to work across multiple startups and solve different kinds of problems. I wanted an environment where I could explore beyond a fixed job description, and PSI seemed like the perfect place to do that. Even during the interview process, the conversations focused less on what I already knew and more on how I approached challenges, which made me feel that curiosity and problem-solving were valued just as much as experience.

Like most people, I joined with certain expectations. I imagined myself working primarily on research, financial modelling, pricing, and commercial strategy. While those areas were certainly part of my journey, it didn't take long to realize that my role would be far more dynamic than I had anticipated.

Soon, I found myself contributing to marketing initiatives, sales, stakeholder management, presentations, business research, and product strategy. Every project introduced a new challenge, a new team, and a completely different perspective. There was rarely a routine, and that was one of the biggest adjustments. Coming from environments where responsibilities were more structured, it took time to embrace the fast-changing nature of work at PSI. Eventually, what once felt uncertain became the part of the experience I enjoyed the most.

The Power of Adaptability

"The biggest lesson this journey has taught me is adaptability."

Instead of seeing changing priorities as disruptions, I learned to view them as opportunities to grow. Every unfamiliar project pushed me to develop new skills, think differently, and become comfortable with uncertainty. Looking back, I don't think I'm most proud of a single project or achievement. I'm proud of becoming someone who can adapt, learn quickly, and contribute wherever needed.

One experience that changed my perspective was working on sales. Initially, it wasn't something I naturally saw myself doing, and I was unsure of how I would perform. But over time, I realized that sales is really about understanding people and communicating ideas effectively. Whether you're presenting your work, pitching an idea, or collaborating with stakeholders, you're constantly building trust. That experience made me far more confident as a communicator.

What has made this work especially meaningful is the opportunity to contribute to products that create real impact. From AI-powered accessibility solutions to innovative technology projects, every assignment felt like a chance to solve meaningful problems. Equally exciting was the pace at which ideas became reality. A discussion could quickly turn into a prototype and then into conversations with potential users, creating an environment where learning never really stopped.

Embracing the Journey

If I had to describe my journey at PSI, I would call it a roller coaster of experiences. Every unexpected turn brought a new lesson, and every challenge expanded my perspective.

For anyone considering joining PSI, my advice is simple: come with an open mind and be prepared to work hard. Your responsibilities will evolve, and you'll often step outside your comfort zone. Embrace those moments because they're where the real learning happens.

My biggest takeaway from this journey is that growth rarely follows the plan you create for yourself. Sometimes, the opportunities you never expected become the ones that shape you the most. PSI taught me that if you're willing to stay curious, adaptable, and open to learning, every new challenge becomes another step forward.
